* Thomas & Hannes klim saam in sy pa se gebou se hysbak – saam met hulle is ‘n vreemde man:
* Thomas and Hannes get into the lift - with them is a strange man

Die vreemde man is Jeffrey (Jeff):

- hy is die hoofverdagte in ‘n reeksmoordenaar soektog
- he is the main suspect in a case against a serial killer
- hy is lank en maer en het ‘n snaakse uitdrukking op sy gesig
- he is tall and thin and has a strange expression on his face
- hy dra handskoene, sy hande hang slap om sy lyf en daar is bloedspatsels op sy hemp
- he wears gloves, his hands hang loosely next to his body and there are blood spatters on his shirt

The serial killer's story:
- ses vroue is helder oordag vermoor – hulle is verwurg
- six women is murdered in broad daylight - they are strangled
- daardie oggend is nog ‘n liggaam gevind
- this morning another body is found
- Jeff is ingeroep vir ondervraging, maar het weggeglip en in die hyser opgeëindig
- Jeff is called in for questioning, but slips away and gets into the lift

Hoofstuk 2 / Chapter 2

Space: Thomas' dad's office building
Tyd: Laaste dag van die somervakansie
Time: Last day of the summer holiday

Thomas en Hannes is oppad huistoe en is weer saam met Jeff in die hyser
Thomas and Hannes are on their way home and is in the lift with Jeff again
- die hyser stop tussen die eerste verdieping en die grondvloer
- the lift stops between the first and ground floor
- Thomas probeer sy pa en Louisa bel, maar beide gaan nie deur nie
- Thomas tries to phone his dad and Louisa, but it doesn't go through
- Thomas vermoed Jeff is die reeksmoordenaar en sien ‘n mes in sy binnesak
- Thomas suspects that Jeff is the serial killer and sees a knife in his inside pocket
- Thomas probeer roep vir hulp, maar Jeff sê die hysbak is klankdig
- Thomas tries to call for help but Jeff says that the lift is soundproof
- Thomas sms sy pa en sy vriende om hom te kom help
- Thomas sends and sms to his dad and friends asking for help
- Alex reageer – sy sê daar is ‘n kragonderbreking in die gebou en hulp is oppad
- Alex reacts - she says their is a power failure in the building and help is on its way
- Jeff sê vir Thomas en Hannes hy is lus vir vleis en probeer die hysbakdeur met sy mes oopforseer
- Jeff tells Thomas and Hannes that he is in the mood for meat and then tries to force the door open with his knife
- Jeff vra vir Thomas en Hannes of hulle ‘n speletjie wil speel
- Jeff asks Thomas and Hannes if they would like to play a game
- Die hyser gaan oop en Thomas val agteroor en verloor bewussyn
- The lift opens and Thomas falls on his back and loses consciousness

Hoofstuk 3 / Chapter 3

Thomas regains consciousness and hears his dad's voice
Hannes sit steeds geskok op die vloer van die hyser
Hannes is still sitting shocked on the floor of the lift
- Jeff het ontsnap toe die hyser oopgaan
- Jeff escaped when the lift opened
- polisie wou hom afkeer op die derde vloer nadat hulle hom op die sekuriteitskameras gesien het
- the police wanted to catch him on the third floor after he appeared on security cameras

Hoofstuk 4 / Chapter 4

Thomas en Hannes besoek ‘n sielkundige van die polisie om oor die insident te gesels
Thomas and Hannes visit a psychologist from the police to talk about the incident
Alex praat oor die toneelstuk
Alex talks about the play
- juffrou Malherbe het gesê oudisies is daardie Vrydag
- miss Malherbe said auditions are that Friday

Hannes se ouers is weg – hy slaap oor by Thomas
Hannes' parents are away - he is sleeping at Thomas' house
- beide gaan die volgende dag skool mis omdat hulle weer die sielkundige moet sien – hulle hoop die twee onthou meer inligting om die ondersoek te help
- both are missing school the next day because they need to see the psychologist again - they hope the two will remember more information to help in the investigation

Thomas en Hannes besoek sielkundige en mis skool
Thomas and Hannes visit the psychologist and miss school
Thabo se ma is ‘n joernalis by ‘n dagblad in die Kaap – sy kan hulle moontlik help – hulle sal later vir Thabo gaan vra
Thabo's mom is a journalist at a daily newspaper in the Cape - she can possibly help them - they will go ask Thabo later
Thabo – Thomas se vriend en bly in die huis langsaan
Thabo - Thomas' friend and lives in the house next door

Tyd: Eerste dag van die nuwe kwartaal
Time: First day of the new term

Die reeksmoordenaar hou Thomas se huis dop terwyl Louisa, Hannes en Thomas daar is
The serial killer watches Thomas' house while Louisa, Hannes and Thomas are there
- hy hou Louisa dop as sy volgende teiken, maar doen niks nie, want die seuns is by haar
- he watches Louisa as his next target, but does nothing because the boys are with her

Hoofstuk 7 / Chapter 7

Space: Thomas' school (Leeukop High School)
Tyd: Tweede dag van die nuwe kwartaal
Time: Second day of the new term

Thomas en Hannes is terug by die skool na hulle ekstra vakansiedag
Thomas and Hannes are back at school after their extra day of holiday
- staan in die vierkant voor skool en gesels met hulle vriende
- they're standing in the school communal area and are talking with her friends
- Alex staan eenkant en gesels met die nuwe leerling, Piet Senekal
- Alex is standing on one end talking to the new pupil, Piet Senekal
- Piet Senekal:
* het in Engeland gebly
* stayed in England
* is lank, maer en baie netjies
* is tall, thin and very neat
* hy het vaal, kort hare
* he has mousy, short hair
* is baie goed in redenaars, skaak en drama
* he's very good at orators, chess and drama
* sy pa is baie ryk en gee geld vir die skool
* his dad is very rich and gives money to the school
* is baie arrogant en ongeskik
* is very arrogant and rude

Piet druk in die ry in en Thomas konfronteer hom
Piet pushed into the line and Thomas confronts him
- die twee stry en Thomas stamp hom hard teen sy rug
- they argue and Thomas hits him hard against his back
- Thomas raak kwaad en gee vir Piet ‘n vuishou
- Thomas gets angry and punches Piet
- Piet se neus  begin bloei
- Piet's nose starts bleeding

Thomas word gestuur na meneer Volschenk, die skoolhoof, se kantoor
Thomas is sent to mr Volschenk's office (the principal)
- die hoof beklemtoon hoe dankbaar hulle kan wees dat leerlinge soos Piet na hulle skool kom
- the headmaster tells him how grateful they should be to have kids like Piet come to their school
- hy vertel vir Thomas dat Piet se pa baie ryk is en geld vir die skool gee
- he tells Thomas that Piet's dad is very rich and gives a lot of money to the school

Hoofstuk 9 / Chapter 9

Die reeksmoordenaar breek in Thomas se huis in
The serial killer breaks into Thomas' house
- hy klim oor die lae muurtjie en glip by die agterdeur in (die agterdeur was oop)
- he climbs over the low wall and slips in through the back door (which was open)
- hy loop in die kombuis rond en besluit om in die spens weg te kruip
- he walks around in the kitchen and decides to hide in the pantry

Hoofstuk 10 / Chapter 10

Space: Thomas' house
Tyd: Tweede dag van skool
Time: Second day of the new term

Thomas kom by die huis
Thomas arrives home
- Louisa sê hulle wag tot sy pa by die huis kom voor hy sy straf ontvang
- Louisa says they must wait for his dad to get home before he receives his punishment
- sy stel voor hulle bak sjokolade pannekoek en beide gaan na die kombuis
- she suggests they bake chocolate pancakes and both go to the kitchen
- Thomas haal meel uit die spens uit, maar die gloeilamp is geblaas so hy sien nie die reeksmoordenaar nie
- Thomas takes flour out of the pantry, but the light bulb blew a fuse so he cannot see the serial killer
- hy hoor ‘n beweging in die spens en neem aan dis ‘n rot
- he hears movement in the pantry and assumes it's a rat
- Lara – Thomas se baba-halfsussie – begin huil en Louisa gaan kyk wat is fout
- Lara - Thomas' baby half-sister - begins to cry and Louisa goes and tends to her

- Thabo is in ‘n Engelse privaatskool in die Kaap en elke leerder daar het ‘n skootrekenaar met internettoeggang, so Thabo kan in die klas sit en vir Thomas boodskappe terugstuur
- Thabo is in an English private school in the Cape and every pupil has a laptop with internet access, so Thabo can sit in class and message Thomas

- Thabo reël dat Thomas daardie middag by hom kom rekenaarspeletjies speel en vertel van ‘n moontlike partytjie vir daardie Saterdag by sy huis
- Thabo asks Thomas to play computer games at his house that afternoon and tells him about a possible party at his house that Saturday

Hoofstuk 12 / Chapter 12

Thomas, sy gesin en Hannes eet aandete
Thomas, his family and Hannes are eating dinner
Thomas se pa raas met hom omdat hy Piet geslaan het – Thomas word gehok
Thomas' dad scolds him for hitting Piet - Thomas is grounded
Thomas se pa sê die verdagte wat saam met hulle in die hysbak was, is gevang
Thomas' dad says the suspect, who was in the lift with them, was apprehended
- hy was glo die eks-ou van ‘n sekretaresse wat in die gebou werk
- he was the ex-boyfriend of a secretary that works in the building
- hy wou haar net kom skrikmaak het
- he just wanted to scare her
Alex kom kuier en bring vir Thomas ‘n uittreksel van die draaiboek wat hy moet leer vir sy toneeloudisie
Alex comes to visit and brings Thomas an extract of the script of the play that he has to learn for his audition

Louisa kom saam om hom te ondersteun

Piet Senekal doen ook ‘n oudisie vir die rol van Ludwig en is Thomas se sterkste kompetisie

Hoofstuk 14 / Chapter 14

Die reeksmoordenaar hou Thomas se huis dop en breek weer in
The serial killer watches Thomas' house and breaks in again
Hy neem die buitetrappe op na Thomas se solderkamer
He takes the outside staircase up to Thomas' attic room
- hy het die vorige keer die solder se sleutel gesteel en gaan in
- the previous time he broke in, he stole the attic's key
- die reeksmoordenaar kom agter Thomas hou baie van sport – daar is ‘n krieketkolf, swembril en rugbybal in sy kamer

Hoofstuk 15 / Chapter 15

Thomas en Louisa kom by die huis na die oudisie
Thomas and Louisa arrives home after the audition
Thomas soek iets om te eet in die spens, maar die gloeilamp is nog uit
Thomas looks for food in the pantry, but the bulb hasn't been replaced
- hy vervang die gloeilamp
- he replaces the bulb
- hy merk daar het suiker gemors in die spens en iemand se skoenafdruk is daarin
- he notices sugar that had messed in the pantry and a footprint that had been left in it
- hy weet dis nie sy pa se skoenafdruk nie, want sy pa kom nooit in die spens en maak dadelik skoon as hy gemors het
- he knows the shoe print does not belong to his dad because he never goes into the pantry and when he messes something, he immediately cleans up
Thomas maak die afleiding dat daar iemand vreemd in hulle huis was
Thomas makes the deduction that an unknown person had come into their house
